Alessandro Mendini elaborated theories and concepts about postmodern design, banal design and re-design.
Mendini gave life to a wide range design which includes pieces of furniture, objects, ambiences, paintings, installations and architectures.
Born in Milan, he graduated in 1959 in Architecture and started his career at the Studio Nizzoli Associati. During the ‘70s he approached Radical Design, standing in 1973 between the founders of the Global Tools, a group of designers firmly standing against tradition. In 1979 he entered the Studio Alchimia, with the mission of creating objects reminding the kitsch and popular culture, outside industrial production and functionality. In 1989 he opened the Atelier Mendini in Milan, with his brother Francesco.
