Martin Eisler

The designer Martin Eisler was born in Vienna in 1913, son of the renowned art historian Max Eisler, one of the founders of Austrian Werkbund. His culture expands while travelling and his design is extremely influenced by his experience in Brazil, a place that aroused his interest in exotic woods and varnishing and lacquering techniques on wood, glass and bronze. Among his most illustrious pieces, the elegant and informal Costela armchair, an icon of 1950s Brazilian design, and the dynamic Reversรญvel armchair, today proudly reproduced by Tacchini.

Martin Eislerโ€™s creations have always been highly appreciated worldwide.

Martin Eisler studied in Vienna under the well-known architects Oskar Strnad and Clemens Holzmeister. In 1938 he moved to Buenos Aires, where he exhibited his first pieces at the Mueller Gallery. He directed two companies between Argentina and Brazil: Interieur with Arnold Hackel, and Forma with Carlo Hauner. His success led him to sign an important contract with Knoll International, in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He passed away in 1977.
