Patricia Urquiola

Patricia Urquiola, Spanish designer and architect, is among the most brilliant female personalities of the contemporary design panorama. In 2001 she founded the Patricia Urquiola Studio with Alberto Zontone, dealing with product design, architecture, artistic direction and strategic consultancy. The core of her style is a fundamental principle: conceiving spaces or objects in relation to people. This approach is reflected in all of her works, considered to be design masterpieces: from the Fjord and Lilo sofas by Moroso, to the  Husk and Crinoline seats and the Bend Sofa by B&B Italia; from the T-Table by Kartell to the Salinas kitchen by Boffi, just to mention a few.

Patricia Urquiola’s pieces embrace an all-around design concept: from furniture to lighting, up to home decor and accessories.

“Patricia Urquiola starts each project by building an empathic connection with the user that will eventually interact with her designs, something she learned from Achille Castiglioni…”
Born in 1961 in Oviedo, Spain, Patricia Urquiola studied architecture and design at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and she completed her academic career at the Polytechnic of Milan, guided by Achille Castiglioni, one of the greatest design masters. She became Castiglioni’s assistant, she worked with the renowned Vico Magistretti, and she also was Design manager for Lissoni Associati. She designs for international brands such as B&B Italia, Cassina, Flos, Kartell, Molteni&C., Moroso, De Padova, Driade, Emu, Foscarini, Gallotti & Radice, Glas Italia, MDF Italia, Paola Lenti and cc-tapis. Since 2015 Patricia Urquiola is Cassina’s new art director, and has conceived exclusively for Mohd the iconic Utrecht “Point” by Rietveld. She won several international prizes and many of her works are exhibited in the permanent collections of important museums, such as the MoMA in New York.
