Farewell to Enrico Astori, architect and founder of Driade
Enrico Astori, founder of in 1968 together with his sister Antonia and his wife Adelaide, left us. One of the most interesting and innovative brands of Italian design, an aesthetic laboratory in the continuous search for beauty in living. Enrico had followed the company both as an entrepreneur and as an art director.
From the first icons, such as the Oikos wall bookcase designed by Antonia Astori in 1972, to the products awarded with the Compasso d’oro, to the international turning point with Philippe Starck in the 80s. To mention some of the most famous projects: the Delfina chair by Enzo Mari, the Legato table and the mt3 by Ron Arad, a futuristic version of the rocking armchair.
Over the years many designers have signed products for the company, such as Nanda Vigo, Patricia Urquiola, Rodolfo Dordoni, Fabio Novembre, Paola Navone, Kazuyo Sejima, Naoto Fukasawa, Tokujin Yoshioka, David Chipperfield.
