Alvaro Siza - Living Room

Álvaro Siza was born in 1933, graduating in 1955 from the School of Architecture at the University of Porto where he subsequently worked as a teacher with Fernando Távora, the beginning of an extensive and diverse design career. His work spans public commissions, swimming pools, universities and museums stretching also into the realm of lighting such as the Falena lamps for FontanaArte. In 1992, he received the prestigious Pritzker Prize for the Chiado renovation project in Lisbon.

Many of Álvaro Siza’s best known works can be found in his hometown of Porto. These include the Boa Nova Tea House, the Faculty of Architecture, and the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art. Amongst his numerous collaborations are also a series of designs with Eduardo Souto de Moura including Portugal's flagship pavilions at the Lisbon Expo '98 and 2000 in Hannover and the 2005 Serpentine Pavillon. His work continues to be acknowledged around the world in numerous exhibitions.
