Le Corbusier

Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, known as Le Corbusier, was a Swiss architect born in 1887. He is seen as one of the most influential designers of the 20th century, a revolutionary whose work still remains highly influential in today’s contemporary design world both for its functional, purist style and its ability to remain constantly significant. Nemo-Cassina Lighting and Cassina continue to produce his timeless designs such as the LC4 chaise longue and Lampe de Marseille, an iconic industrial wall lamp.

His work had an extraordinary influence on the generations of designers and architects that followed.

“To be modern is not fashion, it is a state.”
A close collaboration between Le Corbusier, his cousin Pierre Jeanneret and the architect Charlotte Perriand lead to the creation of three chrome-plated tubular steel chairs which became the basis for a line of furniture created for the 1929 Salon d'Automne installation, 'Equipment for the Home'. The line included the LC1, LC2, LC3, LC4 and LC6 pieces still acknowledged today as perfect examples of modernist design and included in the collections of international museums such as New York’s MoMA.
