Le Corbusier

Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, known as Le Corbusier, was an illustrious architect, urbanist and designer from Switzerland. His purist and rational design method has left an indelible mark on the history of the 20th century. His artistic genius is testified by wonderful architectural pieces, such as the Villa Savoye, the Notre Dame du Haut chapel or the Capitol Complex; or iconic furniture elements such as the LC4 chaise longue and the whole LC furniture collection, produced by Cassina.

His work had an extraordinary influence on the generations of designers and architects that followed.

“To be modern is not fashion, it is a state.”
A close collaboration between Le Corbusier, his cousin Pierre Jeanneret and the architect Charlotte Perriand lead to the creation of three chrome-plated tubular steel chairs which became the basis for a line of furniture created for the 1929 Salon d'Automne installation, 'Equipment for the Home'. The line included the LC1, LC2, LC3, LC4 and LC6 pieces still acknowledged today as perfect examples of modernist design and included in the collections of international museums such as New York’s MoMA.
