Renzo Frau
The history of Poltrona Frau can be traced back to one figure, Lorenzo Frau, aka Renzo. A man from the military world who, passionate about design, started one of the largest Made in Italy companies. During a business trip to England he discovered the Chesterfield sofa and, sensing its potential, was the first to bring it to Italy. Driven by a passion for French and Central European design, he decided to open his own workshop. In 1912 Poltrona Frau was born.
Frau's armchairs, during war years, entered the most important palaces and the royal house.

Today, thanks to Renzo Frau, the company is an international symbol of luxury, beauty and Made in Italy design.
Born in Cagliari in 1881, Renzo Frau left Sardinia to do his military service in Milan, where he met Savina Pisati, his future wife. Together they moved to Turin, where he worked for Gribaudi and then for Dermoide Patent, manufacturer of faux leather. After the creation of Poltrona Frau, he was called to arms during the First World War and left the company to his wife, who would manage it in the years to come. He died in 1926.
