Superstudio

Superstudio, founded in 1966 in Florence by architects Cristiano Toraldo di Francia and Adolfo Natalini, became a major member of the Radical Design movement. Later joined by Gianpiero Frassinelli, Alessandro and Roberto Magris and Alessandro Poli the group became an avant guard creative collective with a uniquely utopian and revolutionary design vision. Their iconic furniture projects included Zanotta’s Quaderna collection, still in production today and Poltronova’s Sofo chairs.

“...if design is merely an inducement to consume, then we must reject design..” Adolfo Natalini
Superstudio was a highly influential creative collective who not only aimed to challenge and revolutionise the concept of the design of the time but who also provided a much broader social commentary which touched on the political landscape and role of education. From the Superarchitecture exhibition in 1966 through to its participation in the MoMA exhibition "Italy: The New Domestic Landscape" in 1972 the members continued to develop their ideas until eventually parting ways in 1978.
