2018 was the year of the celebrations for the centenary of the birth of Achille Castiglioni, celebrations that end, ideally, with the exhibition curated by Patricia Urquiola, at the Milan Triennale from the 6th of October to the 20th of January, 2019. Milanese architect, author of some of the most iconic elements of furniture and lighting in Italian design, Castiglioni has been awarded 9 times with the Compasso d'Oro, 14 of his works are at the MOMA in New York, others are scattered in major museums of the world (from the Victoria & Albert Museum in London to the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein). Together with his brother Pier Giacomo, he collaborated with the most important Italian companies, entering the most beautiful houses in the world thanks to his creations: on this occasion, we rediscover some of them, realized with  Zanotta and Flos , which still represent a current and versatile choice for our homes.

Leonardo by Zanotta

Leonardo by Zanotta Designed in 1969, Leonardo is a work table that can be used as a desk, but also as a dining table. The structure is in beech, the top in white lacquered laminate, or crystal. It uses two stands as legs, a characteristic that has been mentioned, taken up and copied by many after him.

Mezzadro by Zanotta

Mezzadro by Zanotta Irony is one of the constant elements of Castiglioni's production, and this chair proove it. Designed in 1957, it transforms the seat of a tractor into a comfortable and essential stool.

Sella by Zanotta

Sella by Zanotta Still for Zanotta, the Sella stool, confirms, like Mezzadro, how much the talent of Castiglioni was ironic and at the same time perfectly anchored to domestic living. Although it is very famous, not everyone knows that it is originally a telephone stool: in 1957, the year in which it was conceived, the house phone was often attached to the wall and to use it people remained standing for a long time.

Parentesi by Flos

Toio by Flos

Parentesi and Toio by Flos Let's now pass to some of its most famous lights: Parentesi and Toio are two iconic and essential floor lamps. Refined in their simplicity, they are also extremely versatile, because they are integrated into different furnishing contexts. They are the safe choice: because they have personality, without being over the top.

Taraxacum by Flos

Taraxacum of Flos Also in this project Castiglioni proves to be far-sighted: by exploiting the decorative power of the light bulb and elevating it to the nth degree, it creates a lamp that catches attention, even though it is extremely essential.

Snoopy by Flos

Snoopy of Flos Designed in 1967, Snoopy impresses with the asymmetry of its structure and the funny shape, which becomes elegant thanks to the choice of materials: the marble for the base and the powder-coated steel for the hat.
