In the coming months, office work will take on more definitive and systematic contours, after a long phase of working from home or partially from home, the office will become the heart of the life of companies and professional studios again, but with a new awareness. Going to the office, in fact, will no longer be a mechanical and passive action, but rather a conscious choice, aware of the need to meet and establish relationships and interactions live and not only remotely. The work spaces will come back to life but will require a redesign that contemplates the need for privacy and distance, without however going back to the rigid and alienating work compartments of the past. Hence the need to rethink these spaces, in search of a balance between physical distancing and the possibility of interaction. Everything must also be flexible, in order to adapt to the possible sudden evolution of the context. In short, an important change, with the aim of creating a work environment in which to feel safe and protected, but also at ease and serene and in this formal and therefore stylistic choices can play an interesting role: from colors, to materials, passing through forms. So let's see some ideas from the world of furniture.

Signage

Social distance by Viccarbe

How can we remind ourselves and our colleagues and employees to keep their distance in a gentle way and without damaging the serenity of the office? It is the question posed by Viccarbe  who asked Jaime Hayon  to give light to a new type of signage that was gentle but effective and that could guide us in this new normal in which we will return to sharing spaces but we will have to do it more carefully and aware. The new signage designed by Hayon and available for download on the Viccarbe website, informally and friendly reminds you to keep your distance, with the feeling of power and duty to learn to relate to this new mode.

"Liquid" workstations

Outline Highback Work by Muuto

The workstation becomes "liquid" and takes the form of the need of the moment. In the case of a productive wait, the Outline Highback Work  sofa by Muuto  is perfect: a sofa that integrates a high back that also acts as a partition and a work surface for writing and working on the laptop. A sort of workstation / refuge that unlike the classic desk can also be placed in common areas, precisely because it also acts as a comfortable sofa.

Modular desks

Tyde by Vitra

Keep your distance but be able to collaborate in co-presence? It is not impossible if you choose the right furniture. That must be flexible and multifunctional, like the Tyde  system by Vitra , designed by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec  for Vitra. It is a double workstation, not only because it houses two desks, divided by a sound-absorbing panel - which obviously also protects against droplets - but also because it is adjustable in height and allows you to work both standing and sitting. Tyde can also be a meeting table.

Flexible walls

Privacy Panels by USM

As we said at the beginning, the need to mark spaces and protect those who work must not generate a return to alienating workstations divided by rigid and inhospitable walls. The solution is the office dividing panels, designed to cushion noise but re-presented today with a new function, that of helping to keep distances while creating a comfortable and welcoming working environment. Paravan  by Arper  (on the cover) is a collection of sound-absorbing panels that can be combined in various configurations, including circular ones, with relaxing colors that help concentration but also instill serenity. Privacy Panels , on the other hand, is the USM  panel system, covered in felt and with a surface that recalls the design of a woven weave.
