Yellow + Gray: the beauty of decorating with the Pantone Color of the Year 2021
Yellow + Gray is the combination we will need, according to Pantone, in 2021. The motivation? Naturally it takes into account the events that overwhelmed us in 2020 and that we will carry with us at least for most of the months to come. And therefore, as Leatrice Eiseman, color expert and executive director of the Pantone Color Institute explains: "The mix between Ultimate Gray, stable over time, and the vibrant Illuminating yellow, expresses a message of positivity supported by great strength". And therefore strength and hope are the values that Pantone intends to convey, bringing, for the second year, not one but two colors on the podium. But how does this choice translate into a furniture project? Because if it is true that concrete gray is a neutral color we are used to, perhaps yellow scares us a little. Well, here are some projects that will make us change our mind about yellow and understand that Pantone is right: at home we need the strength of the sun as well as the stability of concrete.
Viola is a dining chair originally designed for the restaurant of the Four Season hotel in Hong Kong. It has a sober and contemporary style and is perfectly balanced in proportions. The backrest and armrests have the right height and the two cushions - here in yellow and gray - make it even more comfortable.
Tufty Time is an iconic sofa designed by Patricia Urquiola in 2005, with the aim of revisiting the classic Chesterfield sofa in the light of the ironic and redundant aesthetic of the 70s. The result is a modular solution composed of different elements, all large and generous, perfect in the color combination of yellow + gray.
The Bell coffee table introduces a new way of thinking about the classic table structure because it moves the glass underneath using it for the base, while the top is in metal. Each piece is handmade.
Acid Marble is a table lamp-sculpture consisting of a carrara marble disc on which a yellow colored glass disc is superimposed, both placed on a black marquina marble base. For a refined interpretation of the combination proposed by Pantone.
Chamfer - which we see here in gray ¬– is a sofa with a very particular shape: the armrests and backrest design a rounded corner thus making the seat even more enveloping. The term "chamfer" indicates a chamfer created by cutting a 45 ° right angle. Simple and special.
The Pelican chair is a hug, especially in the version designed for its 80th anniversary in gray sheepskin, coming from the farms of Gotland, an island in the middle of the Baltic Sea. When it was designed, the armchair was too innovative for its shapes and its production was put aside. But today those very particular lines are appreciated for their modernity.
by Eero Saarinen for Knoll
Modernist yet super comfortable, the Womb armchair was designed by Eero Saarinen to satisfy Florence Knoll's request for a seat that resembled a basket full of cushions, in which to literally curl up. And in the yellow version it conveys a sense of welcoming energy.

Strokes, sketches, visual notes on paper are transformed into a surprising decorative motif for the Tratti carpet collection by Giuseppe Di Costanzo for CC Tapis.
