The second bathroom in the house is usually the one for guests and is located in the public area of the house, within the living area. This is why even though it is not the main bathroom, it should be furnished with great care and attention to materials. The goal is to make it welcoming and elegant, precisely because it will be the bathroom for those we welcome into our living room. The small size must not discourage us or give up design, on the contrary it must be a stimulus to identify the best among the projects proposed by the companies. From style to materials, without forgetting functional accessories such as storage elements and lights, let's see together how to design a small bathroom that is perfectly balanced between aesthetics and functionality.

Small but sculptural washbasin

Ninfa by Salvatori

The keystone in the design of a small bathroom is the choice of materials that makes the difference both from an aesthetic point of view and from the point of view of the user experience. Here are two examples of a small size washbasin with a great material effect. The first is  Ninfa by  Elisa Ossino for Salvatori : an essential and thin marble top with matching bowl sink and two gunmetal aluminum legs. Bianco Carrara, Crema d'Orcia, Gris du Marais and Pietra d’Avola are the varieties of marble available. The essentiality and reduced thicknesses make it perfect for a small space with a minimal style. Astro by  Antoniolupi (on the cover) represents a totally different concept: a freestanding washbasin with an internal light that makes the most of Cristalmood, a material available in 13 colors.

Don't give up on containment

Birex by Memento

Often, when designing a small bathroom, we one make the mistake of neglecting the need for containment. Instead, it is an important aspect because in a functional and comfortable bathroom you need to have towels and products at hand, even if it is a second bathroom. A winning solution is to integrate the container element into the washbasin, transforming it into a decorative motif, as happens for  Memento by Imago Design for Birex , conceived for small bathrooms to which containment and style. It is a modular project consisting of a wide range of elements that can be combined with each other to form an interesting and functional design. An alternative with a refined and original design is the Lift collection by Benedini Associati for Agape : a series of modular wall units in different materials and finishes that adapt to any type of bathroom environment.

A touch of color

Campus by Birex

To give a touch of style, we can opt for a disruptive chromatic element such as the  Campus washbasin by Birex , contained in size but very colorful. The shapes are soft and inspired by those of water drops, also recalled, in this variant, by the intense blue. And the chest of drawers offers a large storage space.

Mirrors to broaden the perception

Belvedere by Capodopera

The mirror in a small bathroom has not only the function of reflecting our image, but also that of playing in our favor in the perception of space, multiplying it and making it deeper. In addition, by choosing an interesting model, such as those from the  Belvedere by  Capod'opera collection, it constitutes a refined decorative element

Adequate lighting

Circus by Antonio Lupi

Finally, a small and probably windowless bathroom requires meticulous lighting design. Which must be compact but complete and pleasant. With some “tricks”, like the  Circus mirror by Antoniolupi : an essential circle that hides a light around its entire circumference and therefore helps to illuminate and decorate without looming over the space.
