Charles was born in 1907 and Ray in 1912. They crossed paths for the first time at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan and eventually tied the knot, forging a lasting bond that extended to their work. Together, they crafted classic yet revolutionary pieces of furniture with a modern, playful, and functional feel. Their curved plywood furniture gained worldwide recognition, with Herman Miller, Inc. manufacturing their designs for the American market, while Vitra handled the European market.
