Brilliant, ingenius and visionary, Ernesto Gismondi is one among the fathers and sapient innovators of Italian lighting.

Born in Sanremo in 1931, he graduated in aerospace engineering at the Polytechnic of Milan and in 1959 he got another degree in missile engineering at the Scuola Superiore di Ingegneria of Rome. During the ‘60s he approached the lighting world and founded the Artemide S.a.s. Studio, later Artemide Group, with the designer Sergio Mazza. Moreover, he is among the creators of the “Memphis” Group, an avant-garde design movement. Under his sapient guide, Artemide became one of the most renowned companies of the world. The designer passed away on the 31st of December 2020.
