Gae Aulenti
Gae Aulenti was born close to Udine, in Palazzolo della Stella, on December 4, 1927. In 1948 she studied at Milan Polytechnic under the influence of international Rationalism but then embraced Neoliberty, as evident in her most famous works.
She was a world-known architect, responsible for the restructuring of Paris Musée d'Orsay, and collected a number of international successes without ever wanting to be labeled an archistar. She was warded the Legion d'Honneur by the French Republic, the special prize for Culture by the Italian Republic and the title of Commandeur dans l'Ordre des Artes et des Lettres, the gold medal for lifetime achievements at Milan Triennale. What's more, she was appointed president of Brera Academy of Fine Arts. She worked for international brands, such as Snaidero, Martinelli Luce, Artemide, Zanotta and Fontana Arte and died in Milan on October 31, 2012. Her works are part of permanent collections in the most important museums of contemporary art worldwide.
