Giacomo Balla
A major member of Futurism, Giacomo Balla was an Italian painter, sculptor, set designer, and "parolibere" (words-in-freedom) author. He is famous for the publication of the "Manifesto del Colore" in October 1918: a text in which he analyzes the role of color in avant-garde painting. To honor the designer, Cassina brings back the Balla Screen, a colorful and flamboyant wooden panel designed to divide and complete the areas of the home with a distinct artistic flair.
Before becoming a member of Futurism, Balla was an early figure in Italian divisionism.

Balla was one of the most authentic artists of the time for his research on the effects of light, speed and dynamism.
Born in Turin in 1871, Balla showed an interest in art from an early age. He attended a course at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts and in 1895 he moved to Rome, where he lived all his life. He signed, along with Marinetti and other futurists, the principal manifestos of the movement. In 1937 he wrote a letter to the newspaper "Perseo", declaring himself unrelated to futurist activities. From that moment he was set aside until the re-evaluation in his works, after the war. He died in 1958.
