Vico Magistretti

Ludovico "Vico" Magistretti (1920-2006) was a designer and architect, considered one of the fathers of Italian Design. His works are characterized by a strong expressive language, famous and loved all over the world. These include the Fritz Hansen Carimate chair, the Eclisse, Chimera and Dalรน lamps designed for Artemide, the Atollo lamp for Oluce, the Maralunga sofa and the Nuvola Rossa bookcase for Cassina, destined to become legends of design.

The designer has won numerous awards and honors worldwide, including the Compasso d'Oro.

An architect's son and grandson, Vico Magistretti was born in Milan in 1920, where he began his studies. For a short period he moved to Switzerland, then returned to Italy and graduated in architecture in 1945. His idea of design extends on every front: from the architecture of buildings to interiors, up to objects and furniture. He lectured in various architecture faculties and design schools in Italy and abroad, while collaborating with major international designers. He passed away in 2006.
