What definitely identifies Art is the ability to maintain credibility, to keep exerting charm beyond the changing of epochs and trends. The great artists of all times have been able to create artworks whose value goes beyond space and time, and for this reason are universally recognized. In the world of design, there are many examples of renowned masters that keep on seducing with their creations.

It is the case of Philippe Starck, named Best Designer at the Salone del Mobile. Milano Award for the ability of creating transversal and transgenerational, elegant and affordable objects, that speak a universal language. An example is the Uncle Jack sofa, which provided the designer the Red Dot Best of the Best prize in 2016. The largest piece of injection moulding ever produced, innovative not just in the esthetics but in the techniques of realization. The transparency and the total absence of joints make it incredibly discreet and almost weightless. 

Patricia Urquiola and Piero Lissoni’s creations, winners of 2017 Elle Decor International Design Award: the Gender armchair reflects the end of boundaries between male and female, expressing delicacy and strength, audacity and sobriety at the same time.

The Visioni carpet, instead, entirely realized by Tibetan and Nepalese artisans, confuses the observer with its optical illusions, playing with perspectives and providing depth to the spaces.

The Makura Bed, by Piero Lissoni, combines elegance and comfort. Entirely covered in fabric, leather and eco-leather, it ideally resembles a nest, an oasis of peace where to find restoration.

Antonio Citterio acquires the 2017 German Design Award with its Artusi 2.0 cooking utensils. The collection trusts in the innate properties of materials (like aluminum, copper, steel, iron and cast iron) and potentiate their functionalities, exalting the yield of every course.

Finally, Tom Dixon receives the Lifetime Achievement for Designer at the Milano Design Award. The ability of organizing great events, successfully balancing entertainment and commercial aims, made the designer the uncontested protagonist of Fuorisalone.
