Historical and prestigious brands are once again protagonists of the design week, confirming the value of their long tradition that still dictates law in terms of style and quality. These are  Thonet and Gebrüder Thonet Vienna , who share the origins, in the Viennese laboratory of Michael Thonet, whose foundation is 200 years old, and Carl Hansen & Søn , quintessence of Danish design, for over a century. Three companies of great depth, rooted in their own history but capable of entering and emerging on the scene of contemporary design. They are also famous for their iconic seats, of which they presented innovative variants at the Milan design week.

118 by Thonet

Thonet celebrated 200 years of history with a grand style intervention at Fuorisalone: a tribute to its history but also to the Bauhaus, whose centenary is celebrated this year. In a pop-up shop in the Brera Design District (on the cover), the company displayed its most iconic bentwood and tubular steel furnishings. Next to them, he presented the latest version of the 118 chair, designed by Sebastian Herkner, in six color variations, with a glossy lacquer finish. In the image the new versions of the chair 118.

Suzenne by Chiara Andreatti

Gebrüder Thonet Vienna also celebrated 200 years of history, presenting two new seats: the first, the N200 is an armchair designed by Michael Anastassiades. The name is, in fact, a celebration of 200 years from the first laboratory set up by Thonet and the chair is a contemporary interpretation of the typical curved wood. GTV also presented another new seat: the Suzenne armchair designed by Chiara Andreatti: enveloping and soft, it combines woven straw with a padded seat to ensure great comfort and support. Carl Hansen & Son puts back into production the iconic CH30 seat designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1954: the style of those years of which the chair is the archetype, is today more relevant than ever. The company also relaunches two other important projects: the Contour seat and the Huntsman seat. Both designed by Børge Mogensen in 1949 and 1950 respectively, they are elegant, modern and timeless furnishings, with excellent workmanship and materials and extraordinary beauty.
