What are the characteristics for a perfect living room en plain air? First of all, it must be in harmony with the context in which it is inserted, with the environmental elements, the colors and the atmosphere in which it is immersed. But of course it must also be comfortable, because the outdoor spaces are the place of choice for convivial and relaxing moments, where our first desire is to feel comfortable and welcome guests with great care. But we are still outdoors, so the furnishings must have adequate technical characteristics to cope with sudden changes in weather conditions. Last but not least, the outdoor space must be conceived as a living room and therefore be complete and elegant. These are many elements to keep in harmony, an important goal achieved by the six companies of which we present, below, some new proposals for spring 2020.

1. Ayana by Naoto Fukasawa  for  B&B Italia

Ayana by B&B Italia

The Japanese aesthetic is deeply expressed in this project by Naoto Fukasawa for B&B Italia: the lines are essential and the structure is composed of thick tubular teak that cross, bringing to mind the traditional architecture of South East Asia. The same goes for the sofa seats, low and covered with cushions that resemble tatami and are covered in water-resistant fabric. The collection consists of sofas, armchairs and a low oval shaped coffee table with serpentine top, a typical stone of the Alps.

2. Grandemare  by Antonio Citterio  for  Flexform

Grandemare by Flexform

The Grandemare indoor sofa was designed in 2001 by Antonio Citterio, in 2020 Flexform granted it an important evolution and transformed it to adapt it to outdoor environments. The result is a real sofa with all the comfort and beauty that characterizes it, made of weather-resistant materials. Modular, it is made up of large soft volumes without edges, in a perfect combination of elegance and comfort.

3. Eden by Rodolfo Dordoni  for  Roda

Eden by Roda

The pastel blue of the Eden sofa by Rodolfo Dordoni for Roda seems to want to blend in with the sky. Elegant, like an indoor living room with water-resistant teak bases, it is available in one, two and three-seater modules, plus a hexagonal module (visible on the cover) which can act both as a joint and as a new independent module.

4. Lima by Henrik Pedersen for  Gloster

Lima by Gloster

The high wicker back is the detail that most of all characterizes this series of seats by Henrik Pedersen for Gloster. And if the wicker brings to mind the classic outdoor furniture of the past, the lines are profoundly contemporary. The modularity of Lima allows you to configure it both for a convivial context and for an individual relaxation corner. The fabrics and the leather details with a colonial flavor make it a small masterpiece of style, reserved for the outside.

5. Rilly by GamFratesi  for  Dedon

Rilly by Dedon

A light collection, where air and light can circulate freely: this is the inspiration of the GamFratesi studio for Rilly, a line of sofas, lounges and even a nest in which to take refuge, with a slightly retro flavor. The collection is made of "Touch" an innovative Dedon fiber with a rope effect.

6. Dine Out  by Rodolfo Dordoni  for  Cassina

Dine Out by Cassina

We conclude with an anticipation on the furnishings for the outdoor dining area: this is one of the collections launched this year by Cassina for its entry into the outdoor. The table rests on two large concrete cones in a pleasant juxtaposition with the teak top (also available in concrete or terrace), perfect in combination with the chairs from the same collection (photo by De Pasquale + Maffini).
