Design for well-being: the art of good sleeping interpreted by 4 exceptional companies
The benefits of sleep aremultiple, some manifest themselves immediately: we wake up rested, relaxed and we feel full of energy and positivity, and our face, relaxed and luminous, reflects this well-being. Other effects, equally important, are felt in the long run: sleeping well and enough, in fact, supports the immune system to protect us from viruses and other diseases. As reported in the journal Psychologytoday, a complete sleep promotes the release and production of cytokines, proteins that have the ability to stimulate communication between cells and convey cells in order to counteract and infections. While poor quality sleep weakens the immune system and therefore exposes us more to the risk of getting sick or otherwise not facing a virus well. This is why it is important to evaluate the quality and health of our bed, to understand if the time has come to replace it. In this case, we must immediately focus on quality which today is also accompanied by a great attention to detail and design, as demonstrated by the design approaches of the most important companies in the sector.
Treca Paris is the reference point for the haute couture of the mattress which translates into a craftsmanship know-how guided by rigorous research into individual needs and characteristics. Comfort is guaranteed by the right degree of rigidity, linked in turn by the height and weight of the individual person: a mattress that is too soft does not support the spine enough and could cause back pain. On the contrary, a mattress that is too rigid compared to its morphology will cause muscle tension that could disturb sleep. They seem small details, yet our sleep is affected by them. Starting from all these variables, Treca Paris has developed a personalized production that therefore adapts to the individual person.
From France we move to Sweden where Hastens is the supplier of the Swedish royal house. The strong point of its beds and mattresses are the natural materials used, each has its own particular benefits and, through their interaction, they manage to ensure perfect and natural sleep. The balanced integration of springs, horsehair, wool, cotton, raw linen and wood are the result of the company's 168 years of experience. Flou represents excellence in the sector for made in Italy which means great care for design and industrial production of the highest quality. The Flou bed is a beautiful bed to look at, made to last and to ensure a good long sleep. In the cover image, the Nathalie model, designed in 1978 by Vico Magistretti and characterized by the soft and graceful headboard with the two side bows. On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary from its creation, Flou has launched a limited edition (in this image) of 299 pieces that faithfully reproduces the original design and are covered with a duvet cover coordinated with the headboard in the Antique Gold palette.
We conclude with the English company Vispring which for over one hundred years has been producing mattresses and sommier with pocket springs. The company has been a pioneer in the branch, precisely because since its inception, in 1901 it has chosen high quality vanadium steel springs, wrapped 6 times and packed in natural calico cotton bags. Each bed is padded, finished and sewn by hand and the materials used are of the highest standard.
