Kimano Maidda Chopping Board

Maidda is a chopping board with storage unit produced by Kimano, a brand that promotes craftsmanship, traditions and emerging designers.Mimma Occhino and Margherita Alioto, together are Officina77, they have brought a piece of history to your table by reworking a commonly used object from popular culture in southern Italy.

Until the last century, the Maidda was a fundamental object in Sicilian families. It was a wooden tub in which bread was kneaded or pasta stored. The women would all gather around the Maidda to prepare together the large quantity of dough to provide loaves of bread for the family and the neighbourhood. The spirit that the designers want to convey with this object is that of life in communion and the warmth that sharing food gives. A rectangular marble container with grooved outer edges serves as a bread box and crumb tray at the same time. Above it is the functional wooden chopping board that rests and slides on the outer lines of the marble element. Each Officina77 project bears witness to a story, the result of a design philosophy devoted to attention to detail.
