The 1919 armchair by Poltrona Frau is a design icon, inspired by the model 128 created by Renzo Frau and characterised by classic lines and craftsmanship. The armchair retains distinctive details such as the swivel armrest, made of bronze with a gold or gunmetal finish, and the waxed Canaletto walnut saucer.
The ‘1919 Ultime Notizie’ version was born from the collaboration with Fornasetti and is distinguished by its upholstery in Pelle Frau® leather printed with the ‘Ultime Notizie’ decoration, a trompe-l'œil pattern depicting butterflies suspended on newspaper cuttings. Designed by Piero Fornasetti in the 1950s and reinterpreted by his son Barnaba, this motif gives the armchair a unique visual and conceptual lightness.
Every detail is carefully crafted: the wheels and metal elements, including the brass ashtray engraved with the Poltrona Frau logo, are coordinated in the chosen finish. The 1919 armchair is not just a tribute to tradition, but a piece that combines history, art and craftsmanship, confirming it as a symbol of timeless style.

The history of Poltrona Frau can be traced back to one figure, Lorenzo Frau, aka Renzo. A man from the military world who, passionate about design, started one of the largest Made in Italy companies. During a business trip to England he discovered the Chesterfield sofa and, sensing its potential, was the first to bring it to Italy. Driven by a passion for French and Central European design, he decided to open his own workshop. In 1912 Poltrona Frau was born.
