Ama500 is a stylish suspension lamp designed by the masters Aino and Alvar Aalto and produced by the famous brand Artek. This pendant lamp has the shade and ring made in formed sheet steel. Lampshade in white powder-coated and ring in brass-plated.
Alvar Aalto believed that the purpose of architecture is to bring the material world into harmony with human life. Designed by Aino and Alvar Aalto in 1937, Villa Mairea is maybe one of the best examples of the Aaltos’ design philosophy. There, perhaps unsurprisingly for two native Finns familiar with dark Nordic winters, lighting was of great importance. Today you can still find Aino Aalto’s timeless Pendant Light AMA500 in the villa’s library and as part of Artek’s lighting collection. Providing a soft and warm light, Pendant Light AMA500 is of mid-size and composed of sheet steel. Suitable as a single light source over a dining table or desk, its generous width sheds a substantial amount of light downwards.

Aino Aalto (1894-1949) was a well-known Finnish designer and architect. In 1935 the designer, her husband Alvar Aalto, Maire Gullichsen and Nils-Gustav Hahl founded Artek, a world-famous furniture and lighting company. During her brilliant career, Aino was a furniture and interior designer, architect and photographer, but it is mainly for her glass designs that she became famous. His best known design is the glass collection that bears his name, designed in 1932 for Iittala.
