The company was founded in 1949 by Nils and Kajsa Strinning. That same year, they launched a competition in which they were required to design an affordable shelf, easy to ship and to assemble. This is how the first String® shelf was born, exceeding all expectations, winning the competition and becoming a must-have in the 1950s Swedish homes. In 2004, the company was reborn with the creation of the String Pocket, a miniature version of the shelving system designed for smaller objects.
