Vitra Akari Collection
Inspired by Japanese tradition, the Akari collection by Vitra incarnates the ideas of lightness and brightness through elegant washi paper light sculptures. Designed in 1951 by Isamu Noguchi, the Akari Light Sculptures family features 100 models of lamps, crafted by hand in the Ozeki workshop, in the Japanese city of Gifu. The name holds a precise meaning: “akari” means “light” in Japanese, connoting both illumination and physical lightness. With their original and eccentric shapes, the Akari collection includes suspension, table and floor lamps ranging in size from 24 to 290 cm.
