Frits Henningsen

Frits Henningsen (1889-1965), is one of the greatest Danish cabinetmakers and designers. His creations are strictly artisanal and the direct expression of a charming design. After a youth spent travelling, he opened his furniture lab in the city centre of Copenhagen with a team of cabinetmakers. Among his most representative products the Heritage Chair and the Signature Chair, currently reproduced by Carl Hansen & Son.

At the young age of 22, after finishing an apprenticeship at IP Mørck, a renowned cabinetmaker of that time, Frits Henningsen explored every corner of Europe to broaden his culture and to find new inspirations. He later brought to life a traditional design, inspired by different styles: the French Empire, the rococo, and the XVII century British furniture. Active member of the Cabinetmakers Guild since 1927, he was admired by his colleagues for his sapient talent in crafting materials.
