Gino Valle

Architect, painter, designer, and one of the most influential university professors of the 20th century, Gino Valle infused objects with meaning, transforming them into powerful design gestures. A symbol of his vision is the iconic Cifra 3 clock, designed for Solari Lineadesign in the late 1960s—the smallest clock with direct readout—now part of the permanent collections of MoMA in New York and the Science Museum in London.

Born in Udine in 1923, Valle graduated in architecture from Venice in 1948, studying under figures like Carlo Scarpa. His career unfolded in close connection with the industrial evolution of northeastern Italy, spanning electromechanical clocks, electrical appliances, and architectural projects. A multiple Compasso d’Oro award-winner, Valle saw design as a tool for forging meaningful relationships between object, function, and context. He passed away in 2003.
