Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988) was an american designer, sculptor, architect and scenographer with japanese origins. From sculptures, to furnishings and lamps, every creation of his deeply marked the design of the 50s for their beauty and formal simplicity. Among the most popular items, the lamp collection Akari light sculptures, made of rice paper, but especially the Coffee Table, the statuesque table made of glass and hardwood and realized for Vitra, considered by Noguchi himself his best piece of work.
Isamu Noguchi was born in Los Angeles and attended Art School Leonardo da Vinci. After creating his own studio in Paris, he studied brush drawing in China and clay modeling in Japan. One of his greatest achievements is the modeling of public spaces, with the creation of interactive playscapes for children. According to Noguchi’s philosophy “everything is sculpture”, he was passionate about experimentation using several materials, from the classic metal and wood, to the most unusual stone or bone.
