Maarten van Severen
Maarten Van Severen was a famous Belgian interior designer and architect. After graduating in architecture, he founded an independent laboratory dedicated to the examination of basic types of furniture. Van Severen developed primary solutions, based on the study of issues such as form, material and construction. The beginning of the collaboration with Vitra in 1996 marked a new phase in his career. The designer developed a number of new designs intended for mass production, such as the iconic Vitra .03, .04 and .05 chairs.
Maarten Van Severen is one of the few Belgian designers who successfully reached the top of international design.

Maarten Van Severen dedicated hiself to creating the perfect chair, with the optimisation of both design and production.
The designer, born in 1956 in Antwerp, studied architecture at the Sint-Lucas Art Academy. He designed his first piece of furniture in 1986. Starting in 1990, Maarten Van Severen began to collaborate closely with Rem Koolhaas turning his attention to interior design activities. The designer taught at the University College of West Flanders in Kortrijk, the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht, the Delft University of Technology and the universities of Helsinki and Barcelona.
