Robert Dudley Best (1892-1984) was a British designer, heir of one of the most acclaimed lighting companies of the world, Best & Lloyd, founded in Birmingham in 1840. In spite of his proud creation and renowned collaborations, the designer was interested in shaping a new, modern vision of design, a symbol of the contemporary age. His masterpiece is the Bestlite lamp from the thirties, currently produced by Gubi, a global design icon, loved by the great Winston Churchill himself.
Design lover, Robert Dudley Best spent his youth travelling and meeting many designers, becoming passionate about the Modernist movement. After graduating at the School of Industrial Design in Düsseldoft and in Parigi, his purpose became breaking the boundaries that separate the industrial world from the artistic one. His ideas were shared by his friend Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus movement, which will deeply influence the designer.
