Walter Gropius was a famed designer and architect who marked the history of the 20th century. His name is listed among the most influential personalities of the Modern Movement, and also among the founders of the Bauhaus in 1919, an art and design school created in Germany with the purpose of blending artistic creativity and industrial needs. From his architectural pieces to the famous F51 armchair and the precious Tac collection for Rosenthal, each creation is made of history, art and beauty.
Born in Berlin in 1883, Walter Gropius studied architecture just like his father. In 1907 he started working with Peter Behrens, one of the first architects who employed the principles of Modernism. He later met Adolf Meyer, with whom he founded the most renowned Officine Fagus. Walter Gropius also gave lectures at Harvard, where he ran the Architecture Faculty until 1952. In 1946 he created Tac (The architects collaborative), a collective of young architects inspired by the Bauhaus ideals.
