Falkland 165 Suspension Lamp

Falkland by Artemide is a pendant lamp conceived by the great designer Bruno Munari in 1964. Reflector in natural aluminum, structure in painted metal. Diffuser in white elastic tubular mesh, supported by 7 metal circles.

The Falkland lamp by Artemide, a lighting icon that broke with conventional canons, exhibited at the famous MoMA in New York. Inspired by Japanese culture, Bruno Munari designed a suspension lamp, initially commissioned by Danese, drawing inspiration from the typical paper lanterns. This material did not boast great strength and durability, it was too fragile, tended to yellow and absorbed a lot of light. Wondering which was the best material to use, the designer chose a tubular of filanca, used for women's stockings, 7 metal rings of different diameters, a single lightbulb and an aluminum reflector. Munari’s genius is reflected in a piece with a revolutionary nature: a beautiful suspension lamp with a spontaneous shape, generated purely by the tension of the internal forces that compose it. The choice of this material also guarantees an optimal light diffusion in space, creating deep and overwhelming luminous effects. Light, refined and versatile, Falkland is perfect for both private and contract settings. Today, Bruno Munari's Falkland is distributed by Artemide, bringing to the most sophisticated environments the charm of a cult piece that marked the history of lighting in the 1960s.
