Ready to ShipThe Little Petra VB1 armchair by &Tradition, designed by Viggo Boesen in 1938, is one of the icons of Danish funkis. Presented at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition and awarded in New York and Berlin, it is a classic of Scandinavian design.
Originally created as a bespoke piece, handcrafted and produced in only 30 examples, the Little Petra armchair remained largely unknown to the public for decades, until its rediscovery in the archives. Inspired by Boesen’s 1934 trip to New York and dedicated to his mother-in-law Petra, it celebrated its eightieth anniversary in 2018, reaffirming itself as one of the early signals of what would later become Danish Modern.
Little Petra is an indoor lounge chair with compact proportions: 75 cm in height, 81 cm in width and 83 cm in depth, featuring a low and welcoming seat and a total weight of 20 kg. The frame, made of solid beech and plywood, is padded with HR foam and polyester wadding, and offered with textile upholstery or soft sheepskin in Moonlight or Sahara. The solid wood legs, fitted with felt gliders, support an embracing shell available in Ecriture, Hallingdal and Karakorum finishes. Natural variations in the curls and tones of the sheepskin make each piece unique and one of a kind.
Perfect for living rooms, reading corners, hotel suites and hospitality lounges, Little Petra adapts naturally even to compact interiors. Its ergonomics combine a low profile with a deep seat, enveloping the body in spontaneous, long-lasting comfort that reflects Boesen’s vision. The chair is tested for strength, durability and safety according to EN 16139 L2 – extreme use, ensuring reliable performance even in contract settings.
Ideal in Scandinavian, organic modern or eclectic interiors. In small spaces it stands out in lighter finishes; in larger living rooms it creates elegant relaxation areas. Perfect when paired with the coordinated ATD1 pouf by &Tradition, oak or marble side tables, and soft-glow lighting.

Viggo Boesen (1907-1985) was a Danish designer, who was active during the 1930s-1940s. In particular, he is considered the leading exponent of the "Funkis" style, a Nordic version of Art Deco. His most successful creations include the iconic Little Petra VB1 lounge chair, produced by &Tradition: with its organic forms and warm, soft materials, this is one of the designer's few pieces that accurately expresses and introduces the concept of "Funkis" style.
Since 2010, &Tradition has combined tradition and innovation. The elegance of Scandinavian design comes to life through a catalog of furnishings and lamps hosting both past icons and new arrivals creating design pieces that are acclaimed worldwide. Some iconic examples are the Little Petra VB1 and Fly SC1 armchairs, the Flowerpot lamp collection, the Formakami lamps, the Rely chairs, the Lato coffee table, the In Between collection of tables and the Develius modular sofas.
