The destiny of Cherner Chair Company is linked to the intuitions of Norman Cherner, nowadays considered one of the most original experimenter of XX° century. Essentially architect and designer, during his career he came across to many other subjects, like graphics, lighting and glass processing.

He studied and taught at the Columbia University’s Fine Arts departments, for later becoming instructor at the MoMA, in New York. He became famous for having projected a series of modular, prefabricated houses and the relative furniture, thus creating a typology of low cost house that aimed to answer the accommodation request of post-war’s increase in births.

To this period belongs even the iconic Cherner Chair, a light and sturdy seat in moulded plywood, still exerting its charm after 50 years. From it derives the name of the brand, founded in 1999 by Thomas and Benjamin Cherner, in order to keep alive the father’s projects.

Over time the chair have been revisited in a wide collection of seats, including armchairs, stools, footrests, even now reproduced by following the original drawings.

The armchairs, suitable for the office like for the domestic spaces, have a welcoming air, thanks to their embracing shapes. The high stool, with its slim profile, find its perfect context in the kitchen or in contract spaces like bars or pubs.

Nowadays, the collection is widened by Benjamin Cherner projects, which do not betray the original spirit. Tables with variegated shapes, functional desks for every age, and the latest addition, the lounge chair with footrests, a piece of furniture with an old times taste.
