From the industrial era to nowadays, from Austria to the rest of the world thanks to the ingenious intuition of a man, Michael Thonet: this is the story of Gebrüder Thonet Vienna. The brand was officially founded in 1976, but its roots are rooted in the nineteenth century, when the hand of an artisan craftsman developed an innovative woodworking technique. In 1842 Thonet managed to improve the already known wood bending technique, transforming it into a fast industrial process for the series production. Together with Vienna straw, bent wood will give life to the famous seats signed by the brand.

Legendary products such as the classic chair N.1, from which numerous models up to N. 14 were born, were created in the early years of activity around 1950. An almost immediate success for the family-run business, known as Gebrüder Thonet, which immediately exploited an effective distribution system that could easily expand on the market.

The aftermath of the postwar period didn't undermine the determination and passion of the Thonet family, that in 1948 reopened the activity in Vienna, developing independent production units in other countries as well.
