Less than two months to go until London Design Week and one of the most talked about events is I-Made, the first exhibition entirely dedicated to Italian design hosted in the British capital, from 19 to 22 September. An important exhibition, because it confirms the importance of the Italian furnishing industry on the international scene, with an emphasis not on its past but on its present: because on display there will be the current productions of some of the most renowned Italian companies, reunited. In a system, a team, a group of creative and productive forces that together make the difference. The curator of the exhibition is Giulio Cappellini, who is not just a designer, but also an institutional figure of the Italian furniture industry. Finally, the venue of the exhibition: the Saatchi & Saatchi gallery in Chelsea's Duke of York Square. A gallery devoted to contemporary art, in the context of which Italian design is inserted, assimilated to a work of collectable art. It is, therefore, an exhibition rich in meaning and implications, an important passage for Italian furniture, an extraordinary showcase in the context of London's design week, younger than the Milanese one, but very lively and visible on a global level. Each of the companies involved will show one or more iconic elements of its collections, plus the collateral exhibition "Take a seat", also curated by Giulio Cappellini, will be a review of the most interesting sessions of our companies. Here are some previews of what companies will present.

Driade

Fenix sofa by Driade

Driade  will bring more than one piece of furniture on display, in the image, the Fenix sofa by Ludovica+Roberto Palomba . The sofa has a solid beech wood structure, with an elastic strap that maximizes comfort. The base is thin and discreet, and amplifies the sense of lifting from the ground, making it light and essential.

Living Divani

Extrasoft by Living Divani

It's called Extrasoft and it's a sofa designed by  Piero Lissoni for Living Divani . Modular, essential in lines, soft and wide, it is an invitation to relax. In its simplicity, it presents refined creative details, such as the contrasting profiles, the square shapes combined in an asymmetric but harmonious way, the modularity that leaves the choice free, but is designed to create compositions that are always guessing.

Molteni&C

D.153.1 by Molteni&C

A tribute to the past by the company that exhibits the session D.153.1 by Gio Ponti , still much sought after today. It was part of the furnishings designed by Ponti for his own home and is representative of his style that has made history. The structure is in satin brass, velvet covering: a combination that makes it suitable for any context.

Moroso

Gogan by Patricia Urquiola for Moroso

Presented at the last Salone del Mobile in Milan, the Gogan sofa by  Patricia Urquiola represents the present of Moroso . Wide, essential, clear, in a soft and cozy fabric. In its essential and substantial distinction, it represents, perhaps, that concreteness that we ask, today, for furnishing.

Poltronova

Joe by Poltronova

Poltronova  presents, on the occasion of the exhibition, the unique  Joe armchair, designed by Donato D'Urbino, Paolo Lomazzi and Jonathan De Pas in 1966: a giant baseball glove, inspired by pop art and dedicated to Joe Di Maggio, the sports icon of that era.

Alias

Kobi by Alias

Among the furnishings presented by Alias , there is also the Kobi chair, designed by Patrick Norguet : inspired by traditional iron wire seating, it is made elegant and gentle with soft lines and stylized feet.

Take a seat

Ghiaccio by Porro

The side show, Take a seat, will instead be a focus on chairs. Among the leading companies there will be Ceccotti Collezioni , DePadova , Driade, Flexform , Giorgetti , MDF Italia , Molteni&C , Poltrona Frau , Unifor and  Porro which will also bring the  Ghiaccio chair by Piero Lissoni (in the image). Low and comfortable, made more welcoming by the padded cushion.
