What do IC lamps by Michael Anastassiades for Flos and contact juggling have in common?

"I came across an online video clip of a contact juggler. He was spinning a set of spheres, moving them around on his arms and edge of his fingers. And as I got mesmerized by the magic of his skill, suddenly the spheres look perfectly still. I wanted to capture that exact moment. This was my starting point."

The contact juggling is a particular type of circus juggling: the artist is able to rotate the balls on the arms, hands, fingertips, all in a harmonious balance. Michael has drawn its inspiration for its IC watching a video on YouTube of a juggler, fascinated by the feeling of balance and apparent instability of the ball.

That is how IC for Flos was born: a collection of floor, table and suspension lamps. These lamps, by innate grace, explore the concept of equilibrium with a brushed brass rod and an opal sphere on the edge.

The IC, presented for the first time at Euroluce 2013, had immediately success, confirming the intuition of the Cypriot designer.

Curiously, IC stands for Identity Code, the code that the British police used to define the perceived ethnicity of a person stopped in the street. An ironic way for Anastassiades to define the different designs of his collection.
