Both IED graduates, Marco Maturo and Alessio Roscini founded Studio Klass in 2009, and in a handful of years they have built a solid reality, recognized by companies. Among the first to believe in their project was Fiam, followed by Torremato, cc-tapis, FontanaArte, Ligne Roset, Living Divani and others. The common thread is a dry but lively style, solid but also always with a flicker, a design or formal detail that excites those who discover it. It is the idea in its deepest sense, the solution that brings innovation by showing that the studio is tracing a path having a clear vision of the type of design to make. It can be a chromatic combination, a functional idea, an innovative form, Studio Klass always signs its projects with something extra.

I find the Cinquecento  collection for cc-tapis  wonderful: how did this idea come about?

The idea of the Cinquecento collection for cc-tapis stems from a study that we had been developing for some time on the Italian Renaissance perspectives, trying to understand the logic used in the representations of the works. We started to break down some Renaissance masterpieces into segments, working on geometries and trying to decline them into contemporary graphic solutions. From here we have created four different solutions by applying them to wool and silk rugs.

Speaking instead of your partnership with Fiam : how was it born and what are, in particular the meeting points between your style and their approach?

The relationship with Fiam was born around 2012, when we proposed the first project made of glass to the company, the Magique collection; it was immediately received with enthusiasm, and it was decided together to work on it to make it a product. It was a product of considerable commercial success, well received by the market and which started a partnership with Fiam that has lasted for years now. We strongly believe in the combination of designer and company, in fact we are interested in attending the factory and production, trying to understand what the company's potential is in order to be able to innovate through new solutions.

Can you also carry out a personal and more experimental research activity than the one you do with companies?

Our goal has always been to try to combine personal research with industry, with its dynamics and its pros and cons, in order to arrive at a real, market made up of people. It is not easy, the industry has great potential but at the same time limits, but by working with enlightened entrepreneurs it is possible to arrive at interesting and innovative conclusions. In parallel, we are pursuing an independent project that will probably come to life very soon, even if we do not yet know in what form.

How did the idea of the Igloo  system for FontanaArte  come about?

Igloo was born after detecting an actual problem in the installation of suspension lamps; we wanted a solution that with a single electrical drop allowed to electrify several modules in line. Hence the idea of developing a system, with the possibility of working - through corner joints - on different layouts that would satisfy both the home and contract sectors.

Is there any new project you are working on that you want to tell us about?

We are working on several fronts, also trying to understand what the new post-emergency health needs will be. New scenarios will surely open and consequently design will be able to make its contribution, both in the furniture sector and in other sectors.
