“If you are not curious, give up.” -  Achille Castiglioni

On Thursday 26th October, the Mohd Catania Showroom hosted “Alla Castiglioni”, an event celebrating one of the greatest protagonists of the design landscape between the 50ies and the present times: the eclectic figure of Achille Castiglioni, narrated by the passionate voice of the daughter Giovanna Castiglioni.  

A close encounter with the genius of the famous architect and designer from Milan, during which many of its iconic works have been illustrated. It seems as if  Achille Castiglioni is still alive, speaking through its creations born from imagination and the observation of everyday items. 

A series of fanny scenes conducted the participants in an fascinating voyage of discovery, rich of unknown curiosities: Giovanna Castiglioni took the role of a sales agent and Gianluca Viceconte, commercial director of Flos, acted as a customer. 

Functionality is at the core of Castiglioni’s work. As an example, the holes on the top of the Snoopy and Arco lamps by Flos have been thought to avoid the overheating. Arco’s marble base, instead, guarantees its stability, but even houses a support used to easily move the lamp.

The spectacular charm of the Traccia lamp, able to lighten and decorate with elegance and sobriety. The Mezzadro stool, produced by Zanotta, realized by using the seat of a tractor. And much more. 

The extraordinary ability to combine expressivity and practicality clearly emerges from the voice of the daughter Giovanna, a geologist who started to deal with design for giving the world the most perfect image of her father. The project includes the reopening of the studio settled in Piazza Castello, 27, Milan, nowadays become a real museum of design. In the same rooms, in fact, some of the most famous creations came to life, often created in collaboration with the brother, Pier Giacomo. 

Giovanna Castiglioni opens the memory trunk and, immediately, Achille Castiglioni comes back in that place, wandering, experimenting, playing and donating us fancy and practical solutions for the innumerable needs of daily life.
