There are so many chairs in the design world that it’s impossible to remember all the shapes; anyway, the Panton Chair is one of those that stand out. Born from the fervent imagination of the Danish designer Verner Panton  (1926-1998) in 1960, it came into production with  Vitra in 1967, and it was the first monoblock chair to be mass-produced.

The S-chair (the original name was inspired by the truncated “S” shape) proves to be a successful project, but it goes through ups and downs due to high production costs. The anthropomorphic design, the cantilever structure and the slightly flexible material make it a comfortable and sinuous seat, suitable for both office and home interior but also for contract spaces.

The Panton Chair is without a doubt one of the most expressive icons of the twentieth century: it has received numerous international awards, it’s represented in the design collections of many museums (one of the first prototypes is exposed at the MoMA, New York) and was with Kate Moss on the cover of Vogue in 1995.

The Panton Chair is available in different versions. The Panton Chair Classic, the original one, has the shell in rigid polyurethane foam while the surface is glossy lacquer finish.

On the other side, the Panton Chair has been produced since 1999 and has a structure in dyed-through polypropylene with a matte finish. This version is also suitable for the outdoor, giving a touch of color to terraces, pool and gardens.

Thanks to its smooth shape and bright colors, the Panton Chair has always been appreciated by children. Verner considered with Vitra to produce a child-size version of the chair, but due to economic reasons the Panton Junior went into production only in 2008. Since then, the Panton Junior,  25% smaller than the full-size Panton Chair, accompanies children as a seat and as a plaything.

Only for next summer there will be available a limited edition of the Panton Chair: in fact, in the new Summer Green colour, it will liven up verandas and gardens, but it will be also perfect as a point of color in interior.
