Maralunga 40 is a sofa designed by Vico Magistretti for Cassina. Tubular steel with elastic belts frame, differentiated-density CFC-free polyurethane foam padding. Polyurethane foam and polyester wadding seat cushions and backrest with adjustable headrest with patented mechanism, independent for each place. Leather or fabric upholstery. Base in solid Canaletto walnut wood or lacquered in different colors.

Maralunga is one of the most famous Italian design sofas and on the occasion of its 40th anniversary, Cassina presents a renewed version to offer a wider choice for all environments and for all ages. It features a profile stitching outlining the armrest, the back, and the front part of the seat cushion to make the sofa more contemporary. The backrest is equipped with a movable headrest which is instantaneously convertible from the low to the high position. The headrests are independent for each seat, for maximum comfort. Maralunga introduced the idea of an adjustable-height head-rest, achieved by means of a bicycle chain embedded in the foam cushions. This avant-garde mechanism, patented by Cassina, makes the back cushion unfold and move upwards, to form a head-rest.

The individual elements are coated manually and then, with the aid of a machine to air, assembled between them with a single operation.
