The ND52 Vita sofa was designed in 1952 by Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel and is now reissued by Carl Hansen & Søn with precise craftsmanship and respect for the original design. Moving away from the post-war functionalist codes, the piece explores a freer approach to domestic space, defined by exposed solid wood structure and continuous lines. The visible frame supports a generous seat and a high, lifted backrest that gives the composition its distinctive rhythm. Every upholstered surface – from the buttons to the rear – is hand-finished and available in fabric or leather. Since the 1940s, the Ditzels have pursued a design language that reflects the body and its movement, unbound by formal conventions. The ND52 Vita avoids modular or rationalist logic, suggesting instead an open presence suited to both private and shared spaces. It defines its surroundings with balance, without ever dominating them.
