Vitra Stools Eames Designed by Charles & Ray Eames

The Stools, designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Vitra, were originally conceived as stools for the lobbies of the Rockefeller Center in New York. Over time, they have established themselves as versatile elements, able to complement lounge chairs and sofas while serving either as additional seating or as small occasional tables.

Their character lies in the turned solid wood, which gives them a sculptural and robust presence. Today, the collection expands with new material options: alongside European walnut with an oil finish, variants in chestnut are now introduced. These are made of laminated sections of natural chestnut with a hardwax oil finish, or of darker chestnut finished with oil. The chestnut comes from Poland (Castanea sativa), while the walnut originates from Hungary (Juglans nigra), ensuring the use of carefully sourced woods.

The new finishes bring a different surface quality, emphasizing the tactile essence of the material and highlighting the clarity of the design. In this balance between function and matter lies the coherence of the Eames’ vision, still relevant and resonant today.
