Gubi Tavolo a Dischi - Table Ø 150 cm Designed by Carlo De Carli

Produced by Gubi as a tribute to Carlo De Carli’s original 1963 design, the Tavolo a Dischi combines structural clarity with material precision. First published by Sormani, the piece emerges from a dialogue between architectural form and constructive ingenuity. The base consists of walnut-veneered birch plywood discs, each 3 cm thick, arranged around a concealed metal core. This measured sequence shapes a curved profile that supports the walnut top. The wood used is FSC® Mix-certified (FSC® C176589), sourced from responsibly managed forests. A burnished steel band at the base provides both visual balance and edge protection.

Offered in two sizes, the Tavolo a Dischi seats four or six people, suitable for dining or working spaces alike. Originally launched in 1963, it remained in production for over twenty years, becoming a touchstone of postwar Italian design.

De Carli’s personal response to Eero Saarinen’s Tulip Table, this model reinterprets that silhouette through natural materials and a construction logic articulated by the progression of wooden discs. Compact yet complex, it brings together structural rigour and a tactile sensibility, fitting naturally into interiors where form and function are in quiet balance.
