A reflection of the of the Sicilian people passion, the love story that lies behind the Teste di Moro is one of the oldest of Sicilian's tradition.
Jealousy, intrigue and passion are articulated in a scenario that comes to life in the Kalsa district in Palermo during the Arab domination of the year 1000.
Right there a Sicilian girl who spent hours on the balcony watering the plants fell in love with a young Moor with a deceptive charm.
The deception hidden by the young man was hiding beyond the sea, where a wife and her children awaited his prompt return.
Once discovered, the young girl, overwhelmed by jealousy, decided to kill the Moor by beheading him and inserting his head inside a vase in which she planted some basil.
Watered by her tears, the basil grew so luxuriant as to arouse the envy of the inhabitants, who commissioneted vases by local craftsmen with the same features as those of the girl.
