Tonneau chair is a historic seat, designed by Pierre Guariche and now published by the Ligne Roset brand. Over 70 years of ever green design.

Tonneau was created in 1954 by Pierre Guariche and represents an icon of twentieth century design. Its soft shaped plywood shell ergonomically follows the line of the body, everything is made more comfortable by a black leather cushion fixed with Velcro. The base is in black lacquered metal tubing. Solid beech is also used for the armrests in the armchair model. This innovative chair is the first mass-produced French plywood seat and meets the needs of the era for accessible design for all.

Designed by Pierre Guariche

Pierre Guariche (1926-1995) has been a famous French designer and architect. Born in Paris, studies at the l'Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, getting a degree in 1949. Later on he joins Marcel Gascoin in his office presenting his first creations at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs and Salon des Arts Ménagers. With a functionalistic approach, Guariche has been able to add a personal and innovative touch to design, answering to his time needs, using mass production techniques. Among his most beautiful creations, the 50’s series of lamp presented by Sammode Studio.
