Tulu Chair W55

Designed in 1968 by Kazuhide Takahama for Simon – a company founded by Dino Gavina and now part of Cassina under the name Simon International – Tulu is a stackable sled chair born from a radically innovative approach. It replaces traditional bent tubing with a slim metal rod, curved and induction-welded in a single automated production process. This technique allows tighter bends and a lighter, more efficient structure.

Cassina has since re-engineered the chair, preserving its identity while introducing technical improvements: the seat now features a thermoformed base, and the backrest is supported by elastic straps for enhanced comfort. The cover includes a padded lining and a zip for easy removal and maintenance.

Tulu reflects a clear design vision, defined by structural precision and functional coherence. It remains an example of forward-thinking design, adaptable yet faithful to its original form.
