"Missing Milan" is the beginning of Tom Dixon's latest newsletter describing the widespread feeling of all those who work in the world of design and who this year in an absolutely exceptional way, have been forced to skip their "annual pilgrimage" in the global capital of design ". But the industry does not stop and neither does creativity, and here the sector companies do not hesitate to present the news, albeit in a virtual way, through direct social networks and virtual tours. Among the furnishings presented, one of the great protagonists is the dining table, the heart of both family and work life. Interpreted with rigor and creativity, it returns to be at the center of the furnishings of the living area, with defined lines, formal flashes and a choice of materials that is well balanced and not obvious. The legs lend themselves to evocative and interesting interpretations, difficult to think of covering them with a tablecloth: these tables are enchanting for the eyes.

1. Mondrian  by Jean Marie Massaud  for Poliform  (on the cover)

The return of the dining table as an object of desire is confirmed by Poliform 's choice to extend the Mondrian collection with just this furniture. The metal structure, also available in the champagne finish, has a particular shape, not only interesting from a formal point of view but also particularly functional and practical, with the four feet that do not clutter and do not create uncomfortable corners. For the top (oval or round), Jean Marie Massaud chose the finishes in wood, glass or marble.

2. Curtain by Läufer & Keichel for  Zeitraum

Curtain by Zeitraum

The pair of German designers successfully overcome a timeless challenge: to reconcile movement and stillness in harmony. And here comes the Curtain table, in solid European oak or American walnut. The wavy base recalls the drapery of a curtain (hence the name) and supports the top, which appears thin and light, sculptural. This persistent exchange between lightness and solidity, movement and firmness characterizes the table defining its uniqueness.

3. Workshop  by Cecilie Manz  for  Muuto

Workshop by Muuto

Cecilie Manz explains: “That of the Workshop table is a design reduced to the essence. Deliberately simple in its expression, the table has an almost archetypal aspect that stems from the desire to make as little noise as possible - letting only the details and the joints do all the talking”. It is the quintessence of Scandinavian design that finds in essentiality a key to read the beauty. The simplicity of this table is disarming, welcoming and effective, a return to the origins that works as a total innovation.

4. Mass table by  Tom Dixon

Mass by Tom Dixon

Diametrically opposite is the aesthetic choice of Tom Dixon, who as often happens, manages to amaze us through a bold and courageous use of materials and finishes. He dares where others do not dare and proposes the Mass table, which he himself describes as monumental, heavy and sculptural. Entirely made of brass, produced in the United Kingdom, obtained by processing a single extruded brass block.

5. Cruise Alu by Ludovica + Roberto Palomba  for  Talenti

Cruise Alu by Talenti

Even in outdoor spaces, the dining table takes on increasingly sophisticated and interesting features. The one included in the Cruise Alu collection by Talenti is an interesting combination of classic and contemporary: the die-cast aluminum structure can be read as a reinterpretation of wrought iron in a modern and functional key, which is particularly familiar to us in the green color. And the combination with the marble top is perfect: the whole is visually light, but at the same time lively and decorative.

6. Bedrock 100 by Terry Dwan  for  Riva 1920

Bedrock 100 by Riva 1920

In a video story with an open heart, Maurizio Riva told his company just as he would have done at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, where the centenary of Riva 1920 would also have been celebrated. And precisely on the occasion of this important anniversary, the company has presented Bedrock 100, Terry Dwan's table made up of two solid walnut boards aligned with central joint and natural edge, and structure in the Centenarium Collection finish with an antique bronze effect.
